The Refectory Table

In 2011 Janet Currie and Pete Mosley started to run bespoke workshops for small groups of creative practitioners and freelancers in their home in Leicestershire, offering an alternative training experience and venue at ‘The Refectory Table’.

Janet is a freelance consultant, with a wealth of experience within the visual arts sector, specialising in artist-led initiatives, public art, architecture and design.  Pete Mosley has worked as a mentor and coach to creative businesses for over 20 years, and his insights are based on real businesses and real people. Pete is also the author of Make Your Creativity Pay and business editor of craft&design magazine.

This workshop has been specially developed for The Water Tower. The Creative Business Day is designed to help you identify and develop key aspects of your creative business. The workshop is suitable for people at all career stages – the thinking and discussion will work for you regardless of whether you are a start up or a more mature practitioner.

Creative Business Day – Workshop Description

We will explore the key characteristics and behaviours that underpin successful creative businesses, and then look at how you can run a successful creative business that makes money whilst you do what you enjoy most.

We will look at 5 main areas of development:

The Creative Business Mindset: What are attributes and behaviours of successful creative businesses? A presentation followed by a Q&A session.

Products and Customers: Pete will introduce a powerful diagnostic tool that will help you think laterally about new ideas and products to develop and new customers and clients to work with.

Internet Marketing – using the web effectively: A presentation, followed by Q&A session - how to use the Internet and social media effectively without spending your whole life online.

How to write and talk about your work: How to get the message right for your marketing, social media and blogging. What you need to say where – and how.

Marketing Swap shop: An interactive session that explores which techniques work best and why

You will come away with a much clearer idea of where you are heading, a personal action plan with clear goals and milestones, and a visual timeline.

What’s included.

This day is designed for a maximum of 18 people.  We’ll provide you with a pack of resources to take away and a complimentary paperback copy of ‘Make Your Creativity Pay’ by Pete Mosley.

The fee for this workshop is £50 including lunch, or £45 if you’d like to bring a packed lunch.  Hot and cold drinks and fruit will be available for everyone all day, plus cake during the afternoon break.
