8th April 2011
There will be an event that is part of the Annual Gathering for The Society of Storytelling in Oundle on 8th April 2011 between 12pm – 3pm with a buffet lunch. This will consist of Rosalind Stoddart (founder and former Director of Fermynwoods Contemporary Art) and Ros Patching hosting an event that launches the project and the activities planned for the summer which will in turn inform a far greater festival of spoken word events in collaboration with The Royal & Derngate and The Core, Corby along the river Nene in 2012.
For this event, three storytellers will be commissioned work for their breadth of approaches and stages of career to deliver the creative element of the theme of the project. Taffy Thomas (current Laureate of Storytelling) is often seen as the 'father' of storytelling for his traditional and vast repertoire of the artform and he is based in the heart of rural Lake district. Jo Blake is of a younger generation and based in Northamptonshire having already created a presentation of a BB story and thus has a good understanding of the heart of the project. Adrian Johnson, (former Northamptonshire Literature officer and Birmingham Poet Laureate) will bring his interests of conservation versus exploitation of the countryside to our questioning within his first year as a full freelance artist.
This is open to everyone, but invitations will go out to key people we want to engage with and have knowledge of the summer events and beyond, as well as people who will be attending the weekend of activities hosted by The Society of Storytelling.
